Area Information

The waterways around Athlone are renowned for their course fishing and one can fish in the many rivers, lakes and canals in the vicinity. The Shannon is a large deep slow moving river and holds good stock of Bream, Roach, Rudd, Perch, Pike and Tench.

The Midlands have become a "Golfers Paradise", ideal for golfing reunions, society outings or simply a game of golf on a new course. If you have not sampled "The Glasson Experience" you have not lived! A Christy O'Connor Jnr.-designed masterpiece that has all the golfers talking. Surrounded on three sides by Lough Ree, every hole is breathtaking and offers the golfer a unique and different view. Measuring 7,210 yards from the championship tees, it is a true test for all golfing standards.

We are Situated in Athlone a Town on the River Shannon in the heart of the Irish Midlands. It is 2hrs from Dublin, 2 1/2 from Rosslare and 3hrs from Belfast.

There is a wealth of trout and coarse angling on the Westmeath Lakes, Ennell, Owel, Derravaragh, Sheelin, Lene, Lough Ree, the River Shannon and the Royal Canal. Derravaragh is the source of the infamous legend of the Children of Lir who are said to have spent three hundred years in isolation on its waters.


Visitors wishing to cruise or to fish, to recall mythology from childhood, to tour the scenic routes and picturesque villages, traverse Goldsmith country or the Fore Trail or The Belvedere Trail will find much, much more in Westmeath.
